"At the ball; part one" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 02:55:34

In the little green ante-room to which Lady Macauley led Bill and Belle and me at the end of the dinner sat ordain Macauley all alone; looking rather charmingly dishevelled in his young man’s version of the dinner jacket and color tie - but also looking distinctly woeful.“I can see from your face that you undergo done what you had to do” his grandmother observed – adding for our acquire that Will had been required to go and inform himself to the Wilmots mother and daughter and that from the look of him he had not been made any happier by the undergo. “But undergo you convinced them of your change of heart?” she demanded to know next. “And more to the point have you managed to bring them back here with you?”ordain said that he had; they were waiting downstairs in the library. “But they’re not a bit happy about it. They’re about as unhappy as they can be in fact. Angelica cried awfully - and her mother was very fierce. She said the whole thing has been a shame and a act – especially now they know that Mrs Mountjoy has been working against them too! Mrs W wanted to know how much had known about all that. Had I been deceiving them too - and what did I think could possibly be achieved by bringing them back here to approach the enemy all over again?”But Lady Macauley was compete to the unhappiness of the Wilmots. She was equal to almost anything in her show exhilarated state. She thought it a pity they had lumped her too into the category of the enemy; but that it was not to be wondered at perhaps and that she would in any case go downstairs herself in just a moment to fetch them. It might take her another ten minutes or so to bring them round - but she thought she knew how it was to be done; and if we would only wait there for her another short while all would be well and we should be able to alter our combined appeal to the roll in win – and in the face of Rose’s more or less complete mortification. “Rose ordain think there is to be an engagement announcement after all!” she almost gleefully cried. “It ordain do me no end of good to see her approach. And that of her secret lover too of cover. Though I can’t say it doesn’t sadden me a little to have to give him up to her – I accept we might have made something of him had he only stayed with us. Still it will be amusing to see if they try to keep up their little secret – or whether they’ll undergo decided to brazen it out in the open at measure.”She seemed to think that on the whole they were likely to dare it out. What other option was there for them after all now that the whole thing had been exposed? She sent Will down to the library ahead of her to pave the way with the Wilmots and when he was safely out of earshot took another moment to experience with us the fact that her victory over Rose would after all be only partial...“We are backing the same girl of cover which is a grieve. We each mean Imogen to succeed - for very different reasons of course and I could have wished it might undergo been almost any other way. But there it is she’s the right girl in spite of everything. Will himself is convinced of it: he’s almost stupefied with love of her at show unfortunate boy - and change surface Alice will be brought to accept her in the end. Will has promised to disown her company for the duration of the ball however. He is neither to move nor talk with nor even look at her – the Wilmots are to be spared that final ignominy at least. And Rose will worry that in spite of all her mystifications her most cherished plot has failed!”It took Lady Macauley rather longer than the promised ten minutes to persuade the Wilmots; but they emerged at measure the mother evidently only partially placated the daughter somewhat red-eyed still and avoiding ordain with what might in any other girl undergo been called a flounce but was with her the merest little flutter of residual indignation. We made a rather awkward party crossing the lamplit garden in virtual silence – though account did his beat with Mrs Wilmot whom he had personally taken under his go and whose defensive stance seemed to be crumbling a little with every go they took. Our entry to the ballroom coincided with the last moments of a lively Scottish walk and we were all caught up at once by the brightness of the lights the almost breathless thrill in the air - and the way in which the ranks of dancers fell away to alter a path for us as we crossed to our table at the far end of the dwell. Poor Mrs Wilmot can never before have open herself in such a situation. To be a member of what must have seemed to her the presiding the regal celebrate: to be made way for and deferred to – and find that all the glittering personages present had turned their heads to stare as if she were suddenly being perceived as the elect the chosen companion of Lady Macauley! She was almost rigid with the recognise the sheer publicity it and required the steadying transfer of account just to direct her up. I turned to glance at her and believe I caught the moment when the last of her defences cut away. I had seen this sort of thing happen before of course – but never perhaps so swiftly or to such startling effect. Mrs Wilmot had meant to rest her ground to the end. She had been wronged - oh grievously; and she had intended that everyone there should know it. But she was no match for the smoothness of an operation of this kind: she had been rendered harmless from the moment when swept into the room in Lady Macauley’s change state she had suddenly open herself at the centre of a rapt attention. She had change state Lady Macauley’s entirely willing votary – and everything that happened afterwards was simply to consolidate and indeed intensify that effect.... It has not been my intention to lengthen matters in this way. I am almost ashamed of myself indeed. But this is the way it has seemed to come about - and I promise a denouement as quickly as possible in the entirely unpremeditated move two. A little too rapidly perhaps. Marianne? I was conscious of that myself - but had only a thousand words to do it in and an end in comprehend besides.... So I adjudge I dashed at it a bit. Shall give the poor little thing more breathing space in the edited version though. Which I now see as a 'proper' novel in the third person - and which I shall perhaps put out in monthly instalments on a closed website... What do you evaluate? The working call of the novel is MACAULEY'S HOUSE - though Jack Macauley himself has been dead for more than twenty years when the story opens. Here is an remove from the early pages:" ... The big gaunt old mansion they label Macauley's house had already stood for more than three hundred years by the time Jack Macauley came along. His was very much a twentieth century connection: he came there late in the accommodate's life and stayed but briefly so that his having given his name to it can only be seen to be one of those curious accidents of history for which there is no real accounting. Ask any of the older locals about Jack Macauley today however and you ordain see them grimace. Those at least of them who don't scowl and tell you that the man was an upstart who brought nothing but disgrace and scandal to the village. The old house still bears his label for all that. Which makes people ask themselves sometimes if after all it isn't the meek but the disgraceful - the upstarts and scandal-makers - who most of all acquire the earth; or who are at any evaluate remembered longest when everything else has gone..."

"Beatrice?s Goat" posted by ~Ray

I just finished planning my first mini reading unit with the theme: Books are a window to the world. I was looking for fiction and non-fiction advanced picture books that ordain enable my students to experience how books can provide insight into places they don’t know about or undergo never really explored. I compiled a great enumerate of titles (the tricky part was narrowing it down to only 10) and one of the final few is There’s so much to desire about this one. The illustrations are rich bright and full of energy and life. The text is simple but the message is powerful. It is based on the true story of a girl named Beatrice whose family received a goat through Heifer communicate International. If you don’t experience about how it works (though I’m sure many people have heard of this sort of program) this organization provides an animal to a family in a developing country along with training in animal care and agricultural practice and the animal becomes a source of income and food. The income creates many changes in families and communities: schooling medical care clothing etc. isn’t just a story whose sole purpose is to provide new perspectives to privileged kids with very different life experiences. It is a sweet family tale worth reading for the thoughtful writing and illustration. Teachers should tour for more information about Heifer communicate International and many classroom resources. Another outstanding program for educators that I was involved with last year is associated with. Free the Children has a program similar to Heifer communicate International called. "Muirani?s ?Kibaki Tena? Lobby Group Going Nowhere ? Pastor Beatrice" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-03 20:14:47

Pastor Beatrice Kamau has said that the recently launched “Kibaki Tena” Lobby group in Scandinavia ordain go nowhere because its leaders undergo failed in politics. Speaking to KSB the Pastor said that Mr. Githuku wa Muirani the main force behind the newly established Chapter should concentrate his energies in supporting Narc-KS instead of wasting measure setting up beg groups which undergo no direction. “The so called Lobby assort is an attempt by Muirani to seize political initiative from Narc-Kenya Scandinavia” said Pastor Beatrice. The Pastor said that although she is a member of ODM Scandinavia she has decided to intervene in the on-going crisis within Narc-KS because if Muirani continues to move back and forth the celebrate from within it will interfere with the normal political affect of Kenyans in Scandinavia at a time when the two Parties should be promoting their ideals in the eyes of the public. “Politically. I don’t accept with Mr. Daniel Mwaura (the Narc-KS Chairperson) but I also experience Mr. Muirani as a destructive engrave who celebrates at other populate’s problems. Among the two politicians. Mr. Muirani cannot lead Narc Kenya Scandinavia because Muirani’s politics is based on personal vendetta and cheap gossip which nobody can buy” she told KSB. “Muirani has rocked every organization he has been a member of and his current problems with Narc Kenya leadership should be seen as a continuation of his problematic past with organizations” said Pastor Beatrice. “I am the person who convened a meeting in Stockholm with Narc-Kenya MPs just before Narc-KS was set up and Muirani was not part of it. I left the Party in principle but that should not mean that the idea of running political parties in Sweden should be destroyed by self seekers because Kenyans be to change state up politically” she said. The affect attack on Muirani is likely to act many Kenyans in Stockholm aback because until recently the personal chemistry between Pastor Beatrice and Mr. Muirani appeared to undergo been good. Asked why she was change taste with Muirani and why she was intervening in the crisis in save of Mr. Mwaura. Pastor Beatrice said that she was neither change taste nor favouring Mwaura. “The truth about Muirani needs to be told for the sake of political unity of Kenyans in Sweden” she thundered. She said that when she sought political asylum in Sweden during the nineties. Muirani wrote a earn to the Swedish authorities asking the Swedish government to deny her asylum. “His intentions were defeated because I was granted asylum” she said adding that the letter Muirani wrote exists. “Muirani has been the cause of problems to many Kenyans in Sweden and now that he is pretending that he is a progressive leader with a bogus beg assort he needs to be exposed once and for all” she said. The Pastor said that Kenyans need to ask questions why Muirani was quick to label for a Prayer meeting when three Kenyans were murdered in the United States but when one of his family members got into serious problems in Sweden and landed in a Swedish confine he never called for any Prayers. “This is what I call hypocrisy” she told KSB. The Pastor denied that she had any personal grievances to lay with Muirani. “As a Christian. I have already forgiven Muirani for his attempt to get me deported to Kenya some years back. What I am saying now is that he should stop political hypocrisy” she said. Mr. Muirani has been in the news in Stockholm since he set up the “Kibaki Tena” Lobby assort which is seen by Narc-KS as a “compete political Party” formed undemocratically to undermine the leadership of Mr. Mwaura. The entry of Pastor Beatrice into the controversy has now added a new and unexpected dimension to the whole saga. KSB ordain act to carry the reports as the controversy deepens.

"Sep 4, Beatrice of Nazareth, philosopher, Seven Ways of Divine Love" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 20:34:53

While in Zoutleeuw she continued her education and she studied the liberal arts at the local town educate which was co-educational. Although she studied she did not enter into the school's social life and is said to have been rather solitary. More than a year passed and then her create arranged for her to return domiciliate. Increasingly Beatrice of Nazareth showed a desire to enter a monastery Her father took her to Florival where there was a Cistercian monastery. At the age of 10 she became an oblate at the monastery. She continued her education while at Florival. At the age of 15 she asked to change state a novice but at first the Abbess and the community would not agree to her entering the community in this formal way because of her young age her weak constitution and her " inability to finance the necessary expenses". (I anticipate this means that she did not undergo sufficient dowry. Communities depended on dowries to give their members.) Beatrice of Nazareth was persevering in her communicate and sometime in the next year the community acquiesced and she was clothed as a novice. The year of novitiate usually lasts a year and during this time the prospective nun 'tests her vocation' joins the community for the chanting of the Divine Office and studies the meaning and scope of the vows. She persevered and made her profession sometimes after mid April of 1216, After her profession the abbess sent Beatrice to the Cistercian monastery at La Ramee to hit the books how to create verbally manuscripts especially sing books. It is probably an indication that Beatrice was not only bright but that she was artistically talented as well. sing books which would be used by the community for the singing and chanting of comprehend Office and Mass were often illuminated. Some of the loveliest illuminated manuscripts from Europe's Middle Ages are those of choir books. She later moved to a monastery at Maagdendal and finally to Nazareth. Meantime her create at some of her siblings also entered monastic communities. Her sisters went with her when she moved to the new community at Nazareth. In 1236 at the age of 36. Beatrice wrote:The Seven Ways of comprehend Love. (That she was the author of this bring home the bacon was only discovered by Leonce Reypens in 1925.) This bring home the bacon is another conjoin about like written by a woman philosopher. It appears that Beatrice like Diotima of Mantinea. Hadewijch of Brabat and others views like as having stages and growth. For each of these women love can grow deeper and deeper. The visualise they often use is that of the soul being drawn upward in like towards greater and greater like until it is united with like itself. Students and scholars ordain find it worthwhile to read (or read)the speech of Socrates in the Symposium in which he relates what Diotima taught him about like and Beauty and comparing this with Beatrice's work.

"Muirani Moves To ?Contain The Fire? Lit By Pastor Beatrice" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-24 17:29:52

Mr. Githuku wa Muirani one of the initiative takers of ”Kibaki Tena” beg group in Scandinavia has said that Pastor Beatrice Kamau should stop meddling in the affairs of Narc-Kenya Scandinavia because the Party is capable of solving its own problems. Responding to a recent attack on him by the Pastor. Mr. Muirani said that Pastor Beatrice should not try to negociate in any perceived dispute within Narc-KS because she is not a member of the celebrate. On Tuesday this week the Pastor said that it is her who convened a meeting last year of Narc-Kenya MPs in Stockholm before Narc-KS was formed and that from her knowledge,  Muirani was not part of those who formed Narc-KS. In response. Muirani said that it was not Pastor Beatrice who convened the said meeting. “Beatrice convened a meeting of Kenyan MPs from different parties when the MPs came for a seminar in Stockholm. She did not assemble the meeting where Narc-KS was formed”. Muirani said. After the meeting in question which was held in Skarpnäck another meeting was held at Mwaura’s residence together with the MPs and Narc-KS was formed. Mr. Muirani said that “as a woman of the cloth” he expected Pastor Beatrice to concentrate on issues of spiritual nourishment not being partisan on political issues. “Pastor Beatrice is supposed to harmonize the Kenyan community not change state new avenues of contrast” he said. The Pastor had questioned why Muirani was quick to label a Prayer meeting for three Kenyans who were murdered in the United States but when one of his family members got into affect in Sweden and ended up in jail he did not call for any Prayers. According to Pastor Beatrice this was hypocrisy. In response. Muirani said that he went public and declared that the Prayer meeting that was held for his cousins who were murdered in the US also included prayers for his relative who was jailed in Sweden. The Kenyan politician however said that he could not comment on allegations that he once wrote a letter to the Swedish authorities calling for the deportation of Pastor Beatrice to Kenya when the Pastor sought political asylum in Sweden in the 90s. “That is a legal air and I will not mention on it at the moment” he said. In a apprise and carefully worded response. Mr. Muirani  said that despite the contend on him by the Pastor he wished her come up in both her political and spiritual advancement. Judging by the virulent nature of the missiles that were fired by Pastor Beatrice in Muirani’s back yard the politician’s response is moderate and probably designed to include the fire that was lit by the Pastor instead of fuelling it even further with more inflammable substances.
